1000 Books for Webb Elementary School
Our community service project this year is dedicated to the students at the Webb Elementary School in Northeast Washington, DC. Webb has been one of the lowest performing schools in the DC Public School system -- having had virtually no books, other than text books, for many years.
This school has recently been energized by a new principal and a near 100% change in staff. With that change has come a profound appreciation for the need for good books in the lives of these children.
Seeing the enthusiasm of the principal and librarian for our assistance has inspired the conference planning committee to set a goal of 1000 books -- with at least one book being given to each child as a gift to take with them as they begin their summer break. For many of these children, this may be the only "on-level" reading book they will have.
Once we have exceeded the "one per child" amount, additional books will supplement the classroom and school-wide libraries. We are working with a vendor, and the Webb administration, to facilitate our gift to this community.
Once again this year, we will have the opportunity to show our compassion and generosity. Thank you in advance for helping a very worthy cause.
